GENESEO, N.Y. - Five SUNY Geneseo student-athletes were selected for weekly honors by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). Swimming & Diving swept all four conference awards as sophomore Deidra Osula, junior Samantha Reichman, sophomore Will Eng and first-year Corey Wirth were all recognized, while men's ice hockey junior Tyson Empey was named SUNYAC Athlete of the Week as well.
Osula grabbed a pair of first-place finishes and contributed to a pair of first-place relays as the Knights defeated Fredonia and Grove City in a tri-meet Saturday. Swimming in her hometown, Osula took first in the 100 free with a time of 54.04 and the 100 fly, finishing in 1:00.12. She swam in Geneseo's winning 200 medley relay which finished in 1:51.11 and anchored the 200 free medley that touched first with a time of 1:38.35.
Reichman grabbed her second-straight SUNYAC weekly award as she swept the diving events at Fredonia's tri-meet, finishing first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 253.85, and following up with a win in the 3-meter, posting a 265.75 score on six dives.
Eng helped Geneseo to a pair of victories over Fredonia and Grove City in the Fredonia Tri-Meet this Saturday. Eng placed first in the 50 free with a time of 21.81 and then won the 100 free with a 47.68 finish. In the 200 free relay, Eng clocked a 21.68 leg as the Knights touched first with a time of 1:26.16.
Wirth swept the diving events for the Knights, scoring 264.90 off the one-meter board and 283.80 in the three-meter to finish first in both events at the Fredonia Tri-Meet this weekend.
Empey scored two goals in the first five minutes of Geneseo's 6-1 win at Fredonia on Friday. He later added an assist as the Knights' won on the road against the Blue Devils for the first time in three years in a rematch of last year's SUNYAC Championship game. Empey also tallied an assist in Saturday's 4-4 home tie against Buffalo State to finish the week atop the SUNYAC with 10 points and six goals so far this season.
