BUFFALO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior Kenny Athans and junior John Nasky each registered record-setting performances to lead the Knights to first place out of nine teams after the first day of competition at the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) swimming & diving championships, hosted at Erie Community College's Flickinger Natatorium.

"I thought our team swam really well today," said head coach Paul Dotterweich. "I was happy to see us set some new conference and meet records. I'm looking forward to the rest of the week."

Nasky lowered his own meet record time in winning the 500 free (4:35.09) for the third year in a row. Sophomore Benjamin Greenspan added an eighth-place showing (4:48.29) in the event.

Athans won the 200-yard individual medley (1:53.36), setting SUNYAC and meet records in the process, while sophomore Kristian Tialios finished runner-up (1:55.62) to complete a sweep of the top-two places for Geneseo.

In the 50 freestyle, sophomore Tyler Roth swam to third place (21.42), while sophomore Jordan Gay was fifth (21.73) and sophomore Yonghoon Jun was eighth (21.93).

The Knights finished the evening by winning the 400 medley relay (3:25.77) with a team comprised of Tialios, Athans, Jun and Roth.

In the diving competition, senior Brandon Peifer finished third in the 1-meter competition (488.25), followed by first-year Anthony Burgois in sixth (411.45).

Day-two action is set to start with prelims at 10:00 a.m. followed by finals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
