GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year guard Natalie Alfieri and junior forward McKenna Brooks received regional awards from D3hoops.com. Alfieri was named East Region Rookie of the Year while Brooks was named an All-East Region Second Team selection, announced Wednesday.
Brooks appeared in 28 games, starting all but one for the Knights on her way to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Player of the Year honors. She was also named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament Team after leading Geneseo to its second SUNYAC Championship in four years. In three seasons she has scored a total of 758 points with a career shooting percentage of 48.9, good for 10th in program history. Her 508 career rebounds rank 19th in the Geneseo record book, while her 137 career steals place her 17th.
Alfieri started in 27 of her 28 appearances this season, and averaged 9.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Named the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year earlier this month, Alfieri made 35 three-pointers, tying for 19th in Geneseo history for single-season triples and shot 38.9% from beyond the arc, good for 11th in program history.
The Knights finished the season with a 25-3 record, reaching the NCAA Tournament for the fourth-consecutive season. Geneseo defeated visiting Oneonta, 58-52, in the SUNYAC Championship game (Feb. 24) to earn the program's sixth conference crown.
