Marafioti Named Women's Lacrosse National Player of the Week

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo sophomore attacker Hannah Marafioti was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III Player of the Week, Wednesday,

Marafioti was also tabbed the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Knights to a pair of conference wins over nationally-ranked opponents last week. She scored a career-high 10 points on eight goals and two assists, including the overtime game-winning goal in Saturday's 19-18 comeback victory over No. 18 Cortland.

Marafioti scored three of the Knights' last four goals and assisted the other as the Knights beat the Red Dragons for the first time since 2005 while handing the 20-time defending SUNYAC Champions only their second loss to a conference opponent in 90 games dating back to 2009.

Marafioti also totaled three goals (all in the second half) and an assist in Geneseo's 13-11 victory at No. 25 Brockport on Wednesday. She leads the SUNYAC with 74 points and is second with 54 goals.

Geneseo, (11-4, 7-0 SUNYAC), which moved up to No. 24 in this week's IWLCA Division III poll, take on host Buffalo State this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. The Knights would clinch the top for the SUNYAC Tournament with a victory and earn the right to host the semifinals (May 3) and championship game (May 4) next week.
