GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo junior Elise Ramirez was named the 2017 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Women's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, announced Thursday.
A biology major with a 3.71 grade point average, Ramirez was also tabbed the SUNYAC Runner of the Year last November after a season that included winning the individual title at the SUNYAC Championships (Oct. 28) to lead the Knights to their seventh-consecutive team victory.
The four-time Dean's List honoree also finished runner-up at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Championship (Nov. 11) as the Knights won their third-straight title. She then capped the year with a 46th-place finish at the NCAA Division III Championships (Nov. 18) as Geneseo placed sixth out of 32 teams for the program's fourth-straight top-six showing.
The SUNYAC recognizes one Scholar-Athlete of the Year in each of its 20 sports. To be eligible, nominees must have a minimum 3.30 cumulative GPA and achieve at least a sophomore academic standing while also being a starter or significant reserve for their respective team.
