GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo women's basketball junior forward McKenna Brooks, as well as men's ice hockey sophomore forward Andrew Romano and first-year forward Carson Kelley were awarded State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) weekly honors, announced Monday by conference officials.
Brooks was named SUNYAC Player of the Week after she averaged 12.0 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.7 steals per game as the Knights posted three SUNYAC victories to remain unbeaten in conference play. In a victory over Fredonia on Tuesday, Brooks scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to go with four steals and two blocks. Against Buffalo State on Friday, she scored 15, including an 11-for-11 performance from the foul line, and pulled seven rebounds with six steals. On Saturday at Fredonia, Brooks scored 12 points, grabbed six boards, and swiped four steals to lead the Knights to a 12th-consecutive win. Brooks leads the conference in steals per game (3.3) and ranks sixth in scoring (13.1).
Romano was named SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week. He keyed a 2-0 week for the Knights, totaling a goal and two assists in Friday's 6-0 shutout at Lebanon Valley before notching two goals in Saturday's 7-3 win at Stevenson. He enters the week tied for first nationally with 19 assists and tied for 14th with 23 points.
After notching an assist in Friday's victory, Kelley earned SUNYAC Rookie of the Week honors. He was credited with a goal and an assist in Saturday's win, which was the fourth in the Knights' last five outings. He is currently tied for 11th nationally among first-year players with 15 points.
