GENESEO, N.Y. - Four SUNY Geneseo student-athletes were honored by the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as Athletes of the Week, as women's track & field sophomore Emily Lavarnway earned SUNYAC Field Athlete of the Week, women's swimming & diving junior Samantha Reichman and men's swimming & diving first-year Corey Wirth were named Divers of the Week and men's ice hockey senior goalkeeper Devin McDonald was named SUNYAC Goaltender of the Week.
Lavarnway won the pentathlon at the Brockport Alumni Invitational on Friday, compiling a program record 3,568 points to finish first out of 20 competitors. Her mark currently ranks first in Division III.
Facing NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III opponents at the Ithaca Winter Invitational, Reichman placed third in the one-meter dive with an 11-dive score of 470.05, and then finished fourth in the three-meter with a score of 408.30.
Also battling NCAA Division I and Division II competition at the Ithaca Winter Invitational, Wirth finished fifth in both diving events, scoring 429.45 in the one-meter and 422.50 off the three-meter board.
McDonald authored two shutouts as the Knights tied a program record with their eighth-consecutive victory last week. He totaled 17 saves in Saturday's 3-0 win over No. 6 Oswego after stopping 17 shots in Friday's 2-0 decision at Cortland. Tied for the Division III lead with a 10-1-1 record while leading the way with six shutouts, he also ranks second with a 0.91 goals against average and fourth with a .952 save percentage. Geneseo owns the nation's top scoring defense, only allowing 0.92 goals per game.
