Wahl Named Assistant Swimming & Diving Coach And Aquatics Director

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Mike Mooney announced the recent appointment of Zack Wahl as Assistant Swimming & Diving Coach and Aquatics Director.

"I am thrilled to be joining the Geneseo staff," Wahl commented. "I am looking forward to helping [head coach] Paul Dotterweich continue the program's strong tradition of success both in and out of the pool."

Wahl will join Dotterweich and diving coach Shawn Austin on the men's and women's swimming & diving coaching staff as both teams mount their conference title defenses in 2017-18. 

"I am very excited to add Zack to our staff," said Dotterweich. "He brings a wealth of swimming knowledge and passion for the sport. I am confident he will have an immediate positive impact on our program." 

A native of Webster, N.Y., Wahl spent the last two years as a graduate assistant for the swimming & diving program at Springfield College (Mass.). At Springfield, Wahl served as the primary coach for the stroke and IM groups, and managed the team's home meets. He assisted in coordinating practices, travel and athlete nutrition, guiding four individuals to the NCAA Championship. He coached four New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champions and helped the team break five program records while at Springfield.

Before his time with the Pride, Wahl spent the 2014-15 season as an assistant coach at Middlebury College (Vt.). During his time with the Panthers, Wahl helped to organize home meets, run practices, assisted with recruiting duties and led weight room sessions. He served as the assistant meet director for the 2015 Men's New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted by Middlebury. Wahl coached six athletes to All-America status, with three NESCAC champions and eight program records in his time at Middlebury.

During his days of competition, Wahl was a member of the Union College (N.Y.) swimming & diving team, earning four varsity letters with the Dutchmen. The 2014 Liberty League Swimmer of the Year and Douglas MacDevitt Award winner was a three-time All-American and holds program records in the 100 fly, 200 fly, 200 free relay and 400 medley relay. He was recognized as a CSCAA Scholar All-American in 2014 and was a two-time Liberty League All-Academic Team selection.

Wahl swam locally for the Webster Blue Fins, qualifying for the 2014 AT&T Winter National Championships. He also coached for the club team, guiding youth swimmers with both pool and dryland workouts as well as teaching race strategy.
