All-American Garcia-Cassani Leads Men's Cross Country To 11th At NCAA Championships

ELSAH, Ill. – SUNY Geneseo senior Isaac Garcia-Cassani finished an All-American sixth out of 279 runners to lead the Knights to 11th place at the NCAA Division III Championships, Saturday, at host Principia's North Farm Course. 


  • Garcia-Cassani crossed the 8-kilometer finish line with a time of 24:32.24 for his third-straight top-10 showing at the national championships after also placing fourth last season and eighth in 2016.
  • Senior Connor Pulvidente was the Knights' second finisher, crossing 62nd with a time of 25:13.89.
  • Sophomore Sean McAneny (25:38.64), senior Alexander Burks (25:38.97) and senior Matt Jorgensen (25:39.03) finished in a pack from 123-125th places to close out the Knights' scoring five.

  • Geneseo was making its 15th-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships, joining the Knights' women in their 19th-straight showing to extend the longest streak in Division III for one program qualifying both its teams. 
  • Wisconsin-Eau Claire senior Darin Lau, who Garcia-Cassani defeated earlier in the season for first place at the Principia Cowbell Classic Pre-National meet (Oct. 14), won the individual championship with a winning time of 24:03.59.
  • North Central (Ill.) compiled a winning team score of 57 points to beat runner-up Wisconsin-La Crosse (196 points) to clinch its 18th national championship. Geneseo finished with a team score of 312.
