Napoli Named SUNYAC Softball Player of the Week

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo first-year outfielder Danni Napoli was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Softball Player of the Week, Monday, in recognition of her play during the Knights' games between April 24-30.

Napoli went 9-for-16 (.563) with seven runs, three home runs and 10 RBI in five games in Geneseo's 5-1 week. In the second of two games against Brockport on April 27, she went 3-for-4, with two homers and four RBI. She followed that up with a 4-for-6 doubleheader against Buffalo St. on April 29 in which she scored four runs and five RBI, four of those on a game two grand-slam home run. In the opener against Fredonia on April 30, she went 2-for-4, with a double. She also picked up four walks in the five games, for an on-base percentage of .650 during the stretch.

Her performance over the week gave her the team lead in a number of offensive categories, including batting average (.422), home runs (7), runs (28) and RBI (21). Her seven home runs on the season is tied for sixth-best all-time in Geneseo program history, with Cherylyn Pinkerton '99, behind the record of 10 set by Hilary Gangemi '99. Napoli currently leads the SUNYAC in home runs and slugging percentage (.711) and is third in average and fifth in on-base percentage (.490).

Napoli and her teammates will be competing in the SUNYAC Championships later this week in Cortland. The third-seeded Knights' opening game is Thursday, May 6 at 1 p.m. against Oneonta.
