PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior midfielder Alexa Vojvodic had a goal and an assist to lead the Knights to a 3-2 victory at Plattsburgh and wrap-up a berth in next weekend's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tournament.
Geneseo (6-6-4, 4-3-2 SUNYAC) clinched the sixth seed and will pay a visit to third-seeded Cortland next Saturday (Nov. 2) for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off. The two teams played to a 0-0 tie at Geneseo on Oct.18 during the regular season.
"It is nice to be able to go on the road for our longest trip of the season and come home with two victories, especially when the stakes are high," said head coach Nate Wiley. "We also played some of our best soccer of the season today so it is a very good time of year to be doing that."
The Knights got on the board early as first-year forward Laurie Knapp took a Vojvodic pass to beat a defender and place a shot past the Cardinal goalie in the seventh minute of action.
After playing the rest of the first half scoreless, Plattsburgh (4-11-2, 2-6-1 SUNYAC) tied the affair on a tally by Dianna DiCocco in the 53rd minute. However, the Knights bounced back with a pair of goals in less than eight miutes to take a 3-1 lead by the 65th minute.
Vojvodic tallied her second goal of the season off a header in the box following a free kick in the 57th minute, before first-year forward Erin O'Connor got loose to chip a short shot over the Plattsburgh goalie's head seven minutes later to give the visitors a two-goal edge.
The Cardinals pulled to within a goal in the 86th minute, but the Knights held off the rally en route to their second win of the weekend after also defeating Potsdam, 1-0, on Friday night.
Geneseo senior goalkeeper Julia Sanger was credited with seven saves, including six in the second half, to preserve the victory.
