Women's Tennis Travels to Middlebury, Battles Penn State Berks in NCAA First Round


GENESEO, N.Y. - For the second-consecutive year, the SUNY Geneseo women's tennis team will travel to Middlebury to compete in the NCAA Regional, beginning on Thursday, May 10. The Knights begin with a first round matchup against Penn State Berks (9-5) and with a win would face host Middlebury in the NCAA Tournament Second Round. Nichols, Wilkes, Yeshiva and Skidmore will also compete at the NCAA Regional. 

The Knights (10-9) won their seventh-consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship this fall, defeating New Paltz, 5-3, in the finals. The squad is led by seniors Lauren Salzano and Rachel Ollis, each making their fourth trip to the NCAA Tournament, as well as juniors Vanessa Lam-Tran and Nina Lurie, who earn their third NCAA Tournament appearance.

Ollis and Lam-Tran have gone 11-5 in doubles play, including 9-0 at second doubles this season. Lurie has posted a team-best 12 singles wins this season, earning three wins at the third flight, three at the fourth, and six at fifth singles. 

Geneseo has gone 6-2 in the NCAA Tournament First Round in eight appearances, including victories in each of the last four years.
