GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo senior Elise Ramirez was named the State University of New York (SUNYAC) Women's Outdoor Track & Field Track Athlete of the Year while head coach Chris Popovici swept Men's and Women's Coach of the Year recognition.
Ramirez closed her Geneseo career with a runner-up finish in the 5,000 (17:07.34) at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships for her third All-America citation of the academic year. Voted the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, she won the 5,000 at the SUNYAC Outdoor Championships and finished the season with the nation's sixth-fastest 1,500 time (4:28.00).
Ramirez capped a senior campaign that included 2018 USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year and SUNYAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year honors last fall after finishing an All-American 25th at the NCAA Championships and winning her second-straight SUNYAC individual title. She also finished an All-American seventh in the 5,000 at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
Now and 11-time SUNYAC Coach of the Year, Popovici swept the outdoor awards for the second-consecutive season. He led the women to their third-straight SUNYAC Championship while the men earned their second-consecutive title. Also tabbed the USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year, Popovici helped Geneseo to its second-consecutive six-season (MXC, WXC, MIT&F, WIT&F, MOT&F, WOT&F) SUNYAC Championship sweep while 10 Knights qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
