GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo senior middle blocker Paige O'Connor notched 11 kills on 14 swings with no errors for a sparkling .846 hitting percentage to lead the Knights to a 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-14) women's volleyball victory over Keuka, Tuesday, at Schrader Gymnasium.
Senior middle blocker Paige Pendleton added 12 kills and a .440 hitting percentage as Geneseo (4-6) combined to hit .402 as a team. On defense, junior libero Danielle Sayler was credited with 14 digs while senior outside hitter Lizzy Morton chipped in 12 digs to lead the way.
The Knights used a 9-0 run early in the first set, including two kills and a service ace by O'Connor, to build a 14-4 lead that grew to as many as 12 down the stretch.
Geneseo (4-6) didn't let up to start the second set notching 14-straight points, including 12 on O'Connor's serve, to take a 14-1 edge. Leading, 15-4, back-to-back kills by junior middle blocker Courtney Cleary finished a 4-0 Knights' spurt en route to the 16-point victory.
Geneseo jumped out to a 17-4 lead in the third set that proved to be too much for the Wolfpack (2-4) as the Knights clinched the match with an 11-point win.
Geneseo senior setter Bethany VanDerMeid added 20 assists for her ninth match of at least 20 assists this season.
The Knights return to action this Friday and Saturday at the 27th-Annual RIT Invitational. Geneseo will square off with Nazareth (5:00 PM) and Medaille (7:00 PM) on Friday, before facing Mt. St. Mary (10:00 AM) and Alfred (2:00 PM) on Saturday.
